Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to strongly recommend Mr. Zhou, a worthy youth, as a prospective candidate for your graduate program. As a former teacher of Mr. Zhou, I know him very well.

Mr. Zhou is enrolled in my class of Computer Network. He was always very active in class, coming up with novel and persuading solutions to questions met with in practical cases. He listened to the class very attentively; his notes were always clear and clean. And he was always the active student in the discussion with the classmates and me. I was delighted to see that some of his questions were thoughtful. Some of his comments showed that he grasped the fundamental theories of the subject well and he had obvious got a lot of nutrition from extensive readings.

He once told me that he enjoyed my class because he is interested in computer technology; and my class satisfied his curiosity of the world of computer network. With keen curiosity and intuition, he was always trying to get a thorough understanding of every important concept of my class.

And I would like to add that Mr. Zhou is a nice young boy. Through my association with him, I found him Active, enthusiasm, sociable, considerate and ready to help others. He wiped the blackboard for me at the end of my class sometimes and often bought his note book for his classmates who fell to take notes in my class.

Because of Mr. Zhou’s diligence and trustworthy personality, I am sure you will find him a diligent and pleasant person to work with. I recommend him to you without any reservation.

Dear Colleagues:
XXX requested a letter of reference from me to support her application for graduate studies at your university. As her research adviser when she was a graduate student in my school of science Beijing University of Chemical Technology, I am pleased to comply with her request.
I have known Ms. Zhang since 2003, when she was admitted as a Master of Science candidate into the school. As her research adviser, I directed her research and found her a promising youth radiating with intelligence and creativity. During her first year, she got a very good record in major courses and earnd good scores major and general GPA 3.3. She particularly enjoyed challenging areas of studies such as Quantum Chemistry and Theory of Electrochemistry.
During the following two years, Ms. Zhang worked on a computational theory study of inorganic functional materials project for his degree thesis “Theoretical Study of Electronic Structures of Several Representative Metal Element in the Hydrotalcite Slabs”. To make the theory model meet the actual materials, she faced down many practical problems, such as building reasonable module of inorganic materials, and calculation techniques. Working hard and independently, she cracked the problems one by one, and came up with a thesis that was characterized by academic excellence. During her M.S. period, she had three papers published in international journals.
Judging by her outstanding performance while she studied with me, I am convinced that Ms. Zhang has acquired the knowledge and intellectual sophistication on the basis of which she can undertake world-class training. I have known Mr. XXXX since this July because he and another two special-trained students were assigned to my lab to have a two months practice to prepare for one of the most famous competition in E.E.—National Undergraduate Electronic Designing Competition

There were 11 teams in our university, each had 3 teammates. Impressed by his responsibility and experience, I appointed Mr. XXXX the head of No.1 team. As a head, he knew the importance of teamwork. He familiarized the strongpoints of each member and could dispose the work to the proper one. Under his leadership, he and his teammates could exert their best during the process.

I'm sure everyone will be impressed by his great patience and meticulous care. One day he designed a AGC(Auto Gain Controller). His work was orderly. He used wires in different color in the circuit when he wired them one by one. Nevertheless that circuit didn’t work well. Then he checked his designing diagram again and made sure his initial design was right. Optimistic as he was, he calmly checked the wires again. But all the wires were connected correctly. There must was a bad chip. So he changed the chip one by one and finally he found the bad chip. He was not contented by the working of his initial design and continue to try another design and successfully enlarged the input range to 10 times after 9 successive hours without eating anything. His earnestness and tenacity made a lasting impression on me
Intelligent and ambitious, this young man never stops improving himself. He told me it was the third summer holiday he didn’t go home. He tried to learn whatever he thought useful. Practice proved he was a fast-learner. He taught himself VHDL and could use it freely after two weeks of study. As the accumulation of his knowledge, he felt it was important to use some new technology if they wished to have a seat in NUEDC. He chose DSP as his new challenge. Because it needed a deep mathematic foundation, he lent a lot of latest essays about algorithms from me, most in English, to scrutinize and tried to practice what he had learned. One month later he could be prize to be the only undergraduate who could program DSP. In the competition of our university he and his teammates successfully designed a Speech Processor by DSP and won a special citation by all my colleagues.`
Mr. XXXX is really an energetic and assiduous young man. He and his two teammates always came to my lab at 8:00 a.m. and didn’t leave until 11 p.m. no matter what the weather was, while they were only asked to study here at daytime. It was 5 days before NUEDC, they decide to design a DSP and peripherals board. As the only person who can design a reliable PCB in his team, he stayed up all a night and finished it in time in the morning. It was not until his job was all right, did he have a sleep of few hours on the table of our lab. Hard and tiring, he was never heard complaining about anything. Besides this, He designed all the hardware independently ,such as the singlechip , DSP, AD/DA,LCD kits and keyboard etc. with Protel SE during this summer. After 3 sleepless days from 9.12-9.15, Mr. XXXX and his teammates successfully finished a Waveform Generator and won the Second Prize of China.)
Since I have the experience of learning in Europe, I strongly encouraged him to pursue further studies abroad, especially in your university.
